Why Use Supplements?
It is preferred to achieve nutritional adequacy through diet and lifestyle alone. However, certain situations can arise where this is not possible and supplements can be extremely helpful in prevention and treatment of particular illnesses.
Supplements can be used for a multitude of reasons, here are some in which are common:
-the client’s diet lacks certain nutrients due to food allergies/intolerances
-the client’s diet lack certain nutrients due to deficient nutrients in the soil
-the dietary sources of certain nutrients are only provided in small numbers and it is
near impossible to reach by diet alone (e.g. folate and vitamin D)
-the client lives a very stressful life that they will not or cannot change, or is going through a particularly stressful stage in life and thus needs a ‘nutritional booster’ to support their life.
-supplements are incredibly useful after any surgical procedures where large doses of powerful drugs have been administered, antibiotics have been taken and/or a viral infection is present.
